Most people think San Francisco is liberal. And yet, if you read the comments on this story from the San Francisco Chronicle about the fabulous reception Barack Obama got in Germany, it doesn’t feel or sound liberal at all. The Bay Area is an area that has two of the world’s greatest universities, a substantial immigrant population, and is filled with geeks, writers, artists, musicians, and of course, innovators. But the comments are from people who are obviously poorly-read, clueless about what the Bush government has done to this country and the world. And it’s scary. If people can live in the Bay Area and think like this, how will people in other parts of the country be thinking? It doesn’t matter if you like Obama or not. You can’t be blind to the state this country is now in.
